The Kickapoo River has miles of beautiful scenery. There are many nearby locations with canoe rental. Just pack your cooler, beach towel, and sun screen and enjoy canoeing or kayaking the breathtaking Kickapoo River.
Golfing
There are plenty of options for golfing. The closes course is the Snowflake Golf, located in the beautiful valley of Timber Coulee, only 4 miles away.

Amish Country
Located within 1 mile from the Cottage, you will find many Amish farms that sell all types of goods; including flowers, vegetables, candies, baked goods, apparel, hardware, furniture, and much more. Here is a list of nearby Amish businesses and a map – Amish List
Fishing
The Cottage is located minutes away from many Class I trout streams! Nowhere else can you be so close to so many areas of trout fishing!

Local Wineries
There are two fantastic local wineries nearby. Branches Winery is 7 miles from the Cottage, and Vernon Vineyards is 11 miles. Vernon Vineyards offers free wine tasting of their homegrown grapes. At Branches Winery, relax outside and soak in the views while sipping on wine.
Deep Rooted Organics
Just a short walk away is the Deep Rooted Greenhouse. Here you can purchase certified organic tomatos, flowers, perennials, and annuals. Check out Deep Rooted website for more information about their hours and special events.
Hiking
The Driftless Area offers many areas of hiking. The Sidie Hollow County Park has 10 miles of trails around the Sidie Hollow Lake. Wildcat Mountain State Park has hiking trails that take you to beautiful overlooks of the Village of Ontario. Check out more trail maps here.
Antique Shopping
Explore the variety of antique shops in the surrounding area. Take a road trip through Coon Valley, Westby, Viroqua and other quaint towns and you will more than likely stumble on an antique store. We also sell antiques in the Rustic Shed by appointment only. If you want to take a peek during your stay, just let us know.
Westby Snowflake Ski Jump
The Snowflake Ski Jump has been a yearly event since 1961. This popular event attracts attendees from all over. The competition highlights jumpers from around the world! This is one event you don’t want to miss! More information at Snowflake Ski Club.

Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center
Step back in time and take in the beautiful surrounding of Norskedalen. Norskedalen (which means the Norwegian Valley), is located about 15 miles from the Cottage. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to explore the beautiful trails, learn the history of Norskedalen, view the artifacts in the visitor center, and walk through the Bekkum homestead.
